Control the brightest point
After Hours gives a pale action color room against its deep page. Keep luminous accents sparse so the next step stays easy to find. Large bright panels can overwhelm a supposedly dark layout.
Keep glow out of small text
A blurred glow changes the edge of a glyph and does not improve its measured foreground/background contrast. Use plain solid text for essential labels and put glow effects on decorative shapes, then test the actual result.
Try it on a real task
Inspect the smallest body copy and the brightest action in the dark preview. Add a light theme for visitors who prefer it, and keep any star-field image away from small labels unless the actual pixels have been checked.
